Bristles. Which feels right for you?
The brush ships with a soft castor oil head in the box. This picks the bristles for your spare heads.

Soft, castor oil. The bristles are made from castor bean oil rather than nylon. They feel a touch softer than a standard soft plastic brush, which is why dentists tend to like them for anyone whose gums get a bit sensitive. Most people pick these.
Medium, horse hair. Real hair, collected when horses are groomed, never from slaughter. It has more bite on day one and softens into your routine after a few days. If you already use a medium manual brush and like the feel, this is your one.
Care is the same for both. Rinse, tap dry, stand it upright. Swap the head every two months or so, when the bristles start to splay.
Heads. How often will you replace them?

The bristles move fast enough to push water and toothpaste between your teeth and along the gum line, which is the bit a manual brush can't do however hard you scrub. Same class of power as the big plastic brands.

Does it clean as well as a plastic sonic brush?
Yes. 38,000 vibrations a minute is the same class of sonic power as the big brands, with five modes and a two minute timer. The bamboo is on the head, not in the motor.
Won't the bamboo go mouldy in a wet bathroom?
Not if you give it a fair chance. The head is heat treated and polished so water doesn't soak in, and the brush is waterproof. Rinse it, tap it dry, stand it upright rather than leaving it flat in a puddle. Same as you'd do with any brush, really.
Why are the horse hair bristles brown?
Because that's the colour horse hair comes in. Natural bristle is dark, and if you've only ever used white nylon it can look a bit like last week's coffee. It isn't. The castor oil bristles are the pale ones if you'd rather.
How often do I change the head, and what does it cost?
Every two to three months, when the bristles start to splay. A pack of three is $24.95, or $22.46 on the subscription, which works out at $7.49 a head. The subscription sends three every six months and you can skip, change or cancel from your account in two taps.
Is the head really compostable?
The bamboo is. Snip off the bristles with scissors (they're castor oil based and not compostable, whatever anyone tells you) and the head breaks down in a home compost in about six months.
Will it splinter?
No. Every head is polished after carving. In three years we've never had one come back for splinters.
Is it loud?
About 50 decibels, which is a quiet conversation. Fine at 6am with someone asleep next door.
Is it OK for sensitive teeth and gums?
That's what the Sensitive mode and the soft castor oil bristles are for. If your gums bleed a little in the first few days of any new brush, that usually settles within a week. If it doesn't, talk to your dentist.

Brush with it for 30 days, which at twice a day is 60 brushes and long enough to know. If it isn't for you, email us before the 30 days are up, post it back to us, and we'll refund the brush once it arrives. The return postage is yours, and that's the only catch.
